Overview

Restoration work is reverse engineering. The conservation architect supplied survey drawings and rubbings of the surviving elements, and each replacement was carved to match the original profile rather than a cleaned-up modern interpretation.

Stone was matched from the same quarry region as the original. New pieces were finished with a light antique treatment so they sit with the weathered originals instead of shouting against them.
